One of my favorite style uniforms is mixing a masculine piece with a touch of feminine. These pink pumps from Aldo add the girly flare I want into almost any outfit. When I need another pair of these fabulous heels, I would spring for a similar pink shoes, or these beauties! I love a good military inspired button up, and this camo-green colored one is a must have! You can’t go wrong with Free People and this silky button-up blouse! My favorite jeans are Paige denim and Nordstrom carries the best selection! These Paige Denim skinnies are on repeat in my closet!
When I think about mixing up feminine and masculine pieces, it’s definitely not a new concept for me. Like I said, it’s one of my favorite styling strategies for when I want to feel inspired. I wonder if I am drawn to this type of styling in just my closet, or in my life too? Do I mix up masculine traits with feminine traits to balance out? When I think about the concept, I think both women and men pull from the blue pond & the pink pond at times. These days, it’s not unusual to see a man in skinny jeans or a getting a pedicure. (side note- I think every man should get a pedicure every now and then – it’s good for the feat!)
It’s also not unusual to see a woman doing traditionally masculine tasks such as mowing a lawn or being in the military. I have a huge respect for women in our armed forces. I think they have to battle stereotypes and overcome obstacles that are very different from a man fighting for our country.
So are we all Drag Queens and Drag Kings at times? Maybe! This is hysterical to think about, but maybe it’s time to open the conversation about what men and women secretly think. No, I’m not advocating men being women and vice-versa. I think God made women and men very different, and those differences compliment each other. I do not believe these difference should compete with each other. I think men have their strengths, and women have theirs. When these strengths are highlighted, I think a man and woman can be a unstoppable team.
With that being said, I don’t believe women are damsels in distress and men are macho meat-heads. Women can pull from the masculine traits they admire and incorporate them into their life, just like the men in this world can do the same. The best example is men and skin care. Public Service Announcement for the men out there- You’re not a Drag Queen if you get facials, pedicures, manicures, etc. Sometimes, a man needs a good pampering session.
I love the freedom Draq Queens and Drag Kings have in expressing themselves. I love how they exaggerate their traits and express them to the fullest. I’m gonna throw on my makeup and rock our menswear proudly. With big, drag queen hair, if possible 🙂
